MeSH TREE
Screen 1 of 1

This is the Tree Display. It shows the heirarchy of medical subjects and where your subject appears in relation to the heirarchy.

When you click on CONTEXTS or scroll down the screen, you will see the tree structure for your search term.

Notice that Heart Diseases appears under the broader heading Cardiovascular Diseases which itself is found under the Diseases (Non MeSH) heading.

The heart diseases Tree display is highlighted below.

The MeSH terms (e.g. Arrhythmia) that are indented under "heart diseases" are subjects that are related to heart diseases and may indicate more specific forms of heart disease. Each of these related subjects are themselves independent MeSH terms and may be searched separately.

Notice the numbers that appear next to each MeSH term. These indicate the numbers of articles that are indexed to each individual MeSH term.

These related subjects will not automatically be included in your search of Heart Diseases. If you would like to expand your search to include these more specific instances of heart disease you will need to click on the EXPLODE box next to heart diseases (recommended), the search will then automatically incorporate into our search all of the related terms (those that are indented) in the tree.
