BOSTON LIBRARY CONSORTIUM (BLC) LIBRARIES MOUNT VIRTUAL CATALOG FOR EASIER BOOK BROWSING AND ORDERING

The Boston Library Consortium (BLC) announces the availability of the Virtual Catalog an online catalog project that provides a streamlined, single search interface for identifying and borrowing books that are owned by participating BLC university libraries. Users can first browse the Virtual Catalog to determine which BLC libraries own the books for which they are looking, then place an order to borrow the books. This eliminates the need to submit an interlibrary loan (ILL) request at the library, and expedites the quick delivery of materials. All books that are borrowed via the Virtual Catalog can be picked-up and returned to the Alumni Medical Library.

The Virtual Catalog has a variety of features, including the ability to search anonymously as a "guest" or enter your BU ID to create a personal record and order materials. Other options allows users to check on the status of their requests, view due dates for borrowed materials, or view a history of their book borrowing requests. The Virtual Catalog is accessible 24 hours per day, seven days per week on the Web at: http://www.medlib.bu.edu/library/virtualcatalog.html.
