Interlibrary Loan Service
If you need additional information about Interlibrary Loan Services, contact Konstantin Starikov, Head of Circulation & Interlibrary Loan Services, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (617) 638-4224.
Journal articles, books & book chapters, and other materials not held at the Alumni Medical Library are available through interlibrary loan (ILL). Interlibrary loans cost $6 for each item ordered and usually take 5 - 10 working days to arrive. BUMC alumni can place requests through the library for a $9 fee.
Rush and fax fees vary but typically cost $16 ($19 for alumni), each depending on charges from the lending library. Rush requests are available Monday through Friday only and usually take 24 - 48 hours to arrive.
Payment options for ILLs include print/copy cards, check, departmental account numbers or grant numbers. Copy cards can be obtained in the library. Please note that we do NOT accept credit cards or cash. Library staff will contact you when the requested item arrives. Interlibrary loan materials can be sent via U.S. mail, fax, or electronic mail, or held at the Circulation Desk for pick-up.
ILLs may be picked up at the Library Circulation Desk, Monday-Friday 7:30am-6:00pm. Monday-Friday after 6pm and on the weekends call the Circulation Desk at 617-638-4244 to find out if a full-time staff will be able to assist you with your interlibrary loan pick-up.
Submit interlibrary loan requests at http://medlib.bu.edu/forms/illrequest.cfm.
Interlibrary loans are available to faculty, staff and students of the Boston University schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Public Health, and the Boston Medical Center only. Affiliates of the Boston University Charles River Campus can request interlibrary loans through Mugar Library.
Another option for finding materials not owned by the Alumni Medical Library is to take advantage of Boston University's membership in the Boston Library Consortium (BLC). Membership in the BLC entitles you to use many of the collections of other Boston Library Consortium libraries, including those at Tufts University, Northeastern University, University of Massachusetts and many others. [Note: Harvard University Countway Medical Library is NOT a member of the BLC, however, you can visit the Countway Library as a BU student, faculty or staff. For more information, visit http://www.medlib.bu.edu/facts/harvardcountway.cfm.] Be sure to get your BLC Card at the Reference Desk before going to other BLC libraries.
