Search Strategy for GMS Theses Search
This page is a reference tool for locating GMS theses in the BU Library Catalog. Please follow the steps below to search both library and laboratory theses by former GMS students. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Library by email at refquest@medlib.bu.edu or by calling (617) 638-4228. You can also stop by the Reference Desk between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. The Library will also hold drop-in sessions before the due date of the assignment.
Go to the Medical Library's homepage. Click on the
tab at the top of the page. This tab will direct you to the Quick Search page of Boston University's Library Catalog.
Click on the "Advanced Search" button within the "Catalog Quick Search" Box.
This action will open the Advanced Search page in the catalog. Click on the "Call Numbers" tab.
The Call Numbers page allows you to search by several different types of call numbers. In the third search field from the top, you will see an option to search to search by "Thesis" call number.
All GMS theses are listed under the call number "GMS AM". Type "GMS AM" into the search field. Click "search".

You will retrieve over 1400 citations for past GMS theses. The citations will be listed from oldest (starting in 1994) to most the recent. To reverse the order of the results, click on the drop down box labeled "System Sorted" and select "Reverse Year". Click

To search the catalog for GMS theses on a particular subject, click on the "Limit/Sort Search" button above your results: 
Scroll to the bottom of the page and locate the drop-down box labeled "Words in the Title". Enter a term in the field next to the drop-down and click submit.
** Note: You can only search the GMS theses by title because they are not indexed with subject terms. As a result, your search may not be a comprehensive subject search on the topic. You may also want to browse through the GMS Thesis Collection in the Reference Section on the 12th floor of the Library.
